2023 Reflection and 2024 Vision

Updated: Jan 13

2023 Reflection

2023 was a year of resilience, with the economy, rates, and the stock market going against the consensus. Many experts were almost unanimously predicting that the U.S. economy would have a recession. We were able to avoid having one, and experts believe that it is possible we may have a soft landing or a mild recession still in 2024.

Layoffs made headlines at the end of 2023 with 29% of companies laying off workers, while 21% anticipate layoffs in 2024.

Since hitting a 2023 high in late October, the average 30-year fixed receded below 7% in mid-December for the first time in four months. Despite this, homeownership is still out of reach for many first-time home buyers due to high mortgage rates, home prices, and historically low housing stock. In 2024, some pockets around the U.S. may soften their prices.

Pink diamonds finished strong and appreciated in value more than any other asset and investment class. Metals like copper and iron ore have seen their prices rise, and further increases in commodities in general, especially oil or gasoline, could lead to a return of goods inflation in 2024. Gold saw a downturn mid-year and continued that path throughout the end of 2023.

The best actions we can all take are to focus on ensuring we have safe and steady investments in our portfolios.

Rayah’s 2024 Vision and Goals

As we enter 2024, the vision I have for FCD Invest will be more reflective of my values as a God-loving human being witnessing the changes happening globally. I am and have always been passionate about helping others and making an impact for our children and the coming generations. Over the years, as FCD Invest has grown, I’ve felt drawn to always remember what is important to me at my core. In 2024, we will embrace that as a company. Our goals for this year are as follows:

  1. Spend more time using advisory and resources to work toward funding humanitarian projects at scale.

  2.  Work with institutions and family offices to manage fancy color diamonds as an asset class - and one of the strongest, most stable asset classes in the world.

  3. Publish more educational articles to showcase diamonds as an investment and asset class.

  4. Expanding to be able to help more individuals and families to invest in fancy color diamonds in specific areas of the market while they are available.

  5.  Supporting Global unequivocal condemnation of antisemitism.

We are thankful to be entering this new year with you! Please send me an email if there are any specific informational articles you would like me to publish.
